The Minister of Agriculture, Maria do Céu Antunes, stressed that the Government is trying to "find a way to take the by-products of agriculture and work on these materials so that they can later be used as organic fertilizers".
In Castelo Branco, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Emparcelar para Ordenar program, the Minister highlighted that this could be a solution to overcome the lack of capacity of the factories to store olive bagasse in the Alentejo.
Maria do Céu Antunes pointed out that the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries is monitoring and evaluating the process and added that "it is currently being considered by the producers the rental of spaces to place the olive pomace so that it can be worked afterwards" .
"What we believe should happen in relation to olive pomace, as well as other agricultural by-products, namely livestock effluents, is that we manage to make their organic recovery, to replace synthetic fertilizers with organic fertilizers, which is one of the objectives that we have in our portfolio for the next investment cycle», he referred.
