If it is not easy to define PAM, much less easy, it is to talk about PAM in Portugal. This is a sector that has evolved exponentially in recent years, but in an individual, not concerted way. First of all, for these reasons, this is a very worthwhile job because only dedicated, committed people with a lot of “love for the shirt” could find the motivation to gather fragmented, dispersed information, difficult to systematize and analyze.

But this is necessary and fundamental work, in the current context of a circular economy that values and takes advantage of all products derived from WFP. The sustained evolution of this sector involves knowing, and making known, the bases on which it is based, and how to improve and make what exists evolve. It was with this motivation that the author of this work, Banco Português de Germoplasma Vegetal (BPGV), in the person of Eng. Ana Maria Barata and Eng. Violeta Rolim Lopes, with the collaboration of Eng. Maria Socorro Rosário from the Planning, Policies and General Administration Office (GPP), and with the support of the Association for the Development of the Municipality of Moura (ADCMoura), set out to provide a current overview of the PAM sector in mainland Portugal”. From the preface by Prof. Dr. Ana Cristina Figueiredo.
