Project started on September 1, 2018 and developed by INIAV (leading entity) in partnership with Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB) / Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
It aims to conserve and organize the National Ampelographic Collection (CAN), guaranteeing the sustainability of native vine varieties and their wild relatives, while allowing their use in various preliminary studies of an agronomic and enological nature. It is also intended to create new varieties, resulting from crosses between native varieties and Vitis vinifera resistant to diseases such as mildew and powdery mildew. All the work carried out fosters the prospect of providing the national wine sector with the best plant materials with the consequent generation of value.
