THE New Organic Planet (NOP), is a company that started its activity in 2016 in the areas of Platform Management online and Scientific Research Projects within the scope of Organic Agriculture.
We are an entrepreneurial company with the objective of increasing scientific production and developing new products and businesses in the Agricultural and Agrifood sector.
We promote collaborative structures creating opportunities for cooperation between the business and institutional fabric at the level of organic production and processing.
THE PROJECT
The PROBIOMADEIRA project was financed and developed within the scope of PROCiência 2020- System of Incentives for the Production of Scientific and Technological Knowledge of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Support Program of the Institute for Business Development (IDE RAM).
The PROBIOMADEIRA project started from a sustained and sufficiently robust assessment that defined guidelines necessary for the organization and regulation of the production and commercialization sector in Organic Production Mode. Since soil fertility is one of the mandatory conditions for successful production, its assessment was carried out, as well as the identification and study of sources of organic matter, distributed throughout the island of Madeira. 7 case studies of producers in organic production were selected and different surveys were carried out in the context of agricultural production and marketing, during the project execution period.
With the aim of proposing methods and practices adapted to the maintenance and/or increase of fertility and to other soil conservation and management practices and considering the production cycles and the adequacy of crops, with greater economic interest in the Region, guidelines were defined for the development of this online platform that brings together the entire production chain in organic production. The main studies carried out in the Project can be consulted at Knowledge Platform Wiki, namely the Guide to Good Practices for Soil Conservation and Fertility in Madeira.
in the interest of New Organic Planet in promoting and publishing technical-scientific information, the Probiomadeira platform is now a platform that disseminates news, studies and technical-scientific projects in organic farming and sustainable production means and aggregates pages and tools to support organic production and certification, like the BioGest.
THE PARTNERS
PROBIOMADEIRA was a research project in collaboration with the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development, the University of Madeira, the Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra and Agroconceito, an agricultural consultancy and technical support company.
The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development is one of the departments of the Regional Government of Madeira, with responsibilities in the sectors of agriculture, livestock, veterinary, rural development to support farmers and in the management of community agricultural funds.
The University of Madeira (UMa) has existed since 1988. In 1990/91, it attended the first steps taken by most of the courses at this University, such as Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Modern Languages and Literature. The Germplasm Bank, ISOPlexis is a Research Unit of the University of Madeira, created in 1996, with the objective of developing fundamental and / or applied studies in the area of Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, dedicated to the study of agrodiversity, genetic resources and agrosystems.
ESAC - Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra is a school that is part of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, oriented towards the pursuit of polytechnic higher education objectives in the field of agricultural sciences and engineering, technologies and the like. It offers training in a wide range of scientific areas covering agricultural and animal production, rural development, forestry, biotechnology, environmental protection management and technology and the food industries.
Agroconceito is a company that aims to support, develop and promote sustainable agricultural production methods, in order to achieve an economic, environmental and socially responsible activity. It has a diversified client portfolio in the scope of consultancy and technical support in the assessment, implementation and monitoring of agricultural activity, as well as agricultural certification (integrated production, organic farming, GLOBAL GAP and Greening).
